Founded in 1889 by Seisuke Kondo as a street sushi stall near the Nihonbashi fish market, the shop moved to Tsukiji along with the market after the Great Kanto Earthquake. It has since grown into a nationwide chain of about 30 locations, anchored by its main shop in the outer market.
